The NowHaus team and I along with our partners built three stand-alone single-family modern homes in the Friendly neighborhood in Eugene, Oregon. Nestled into the hot spot of the neighborhood, Skyview is a mere walk across the street from a grocery store, acupuncture and massage therapists and a pet store. It is also neighbor to delicious food carts, a Japanese tea house and a plant nursery.

Along with our partners, NowHaus built the Lucía townhouses with love, hope and a genuine shared desire to foster community. We created 12 beautiful, healthy, modern homes in three separate buildings with both private and shared outdoor spaces. The townhouses have a clean, modern, and warm Northwest contemporary aesthetic, and the spaces in and around them are designed to be a trellis of support for the people who live in them. Lucía is a vibrant, sustainable and diverse community of people that grows together and supports members through all stages of life near College Hill and Amazon Park in South Eugene.

Arcadia is a vibrant new community of people who live in sustainable multifamily housing. The NowHaus team and our partners are proud of our work to enhance the neighborhood with the addition of beautiful, modern and sustainably-built townhomes. The design is walkable and community-oriented with micro orchards, outdoor patios and communal gardens. These elements enable people to enjoy their private homes while also engaging in a lively atmosphere where people meet, share life, laugh together and develop friendships. Thirteen energy efficient, modern, eco-friendly townhomes, a community garden and common space support a multi-generational community with a strong sense of social connectivity in the heart of Eugene’s Friendly neighborhood. Arcadia is located near Amazon Park and College Hill in South Eugene at Friendly Street and 28th Avenue.

Along with Architect Jan Fillinger and his firm Studio-E Architecture and our partners, the NowHaus team and I reimagined a decommissioned church building as three large, vibrant townhomes along with our partners. Originally constructed in the 1940s, this total building retrofit features modern four-bedroom, three-bathroom layouts. The sustainably-built, energy efficient modern townhouses are sited immediately adjacent to our Arcadia Townhouses community and in the heart of Eugene’s Friendly neighborhood. Homeowners are a one-minute walk away from a grocery and pet supply store, Japanese tea house and several local delicious food carts.

Homeowners in South Eugene needed a new space for a family member, and they came to us with a request to build an accessory dwelling unit. The backyard site is on a steep slope—greater than 15% grade—and filled with boulders. The homeowners wanted a quick construction turnaround, because they didn’t want contractors in their yard for months. The NowHaus Team and I helped them solve those challenging problems and constructed a valuable addition to their residential property. To ensure efficiency, we used a construction method that relies on structural insulated panels, instead of traditional lumber framing.

When a friend asked for help building an accessory dwelling unit, the NowHaus team and I answered with a modern, energy-efficient backyard studio. We help homeowners navigate the rules and regulations that the City of Eugene uses to permit accessory dwelling units. Our construction always meets and often exceeds code requirements. We are experts in home construction and home additions, and we’re particularly good at constructing detached studios. With a new accessory dwelling unit and landscaping now part of his home, that friend’s financial accounting books turned from red to black after he employed it as a full-time residence to generate rental income.

In the hills of West Eugene, we helped a family replace a treacherous set of stairs that connect the driveway to the front door of the two-story split-level home. In place of the steep spiraling stone staircase, the homeowners wanted new, safer stairs with an attractive modern aesthetic. The NowHaus team and I safely removed the old stairs and designed and constructed a new, safer set with wood, metal and clean lines.
